Conservatives denounce Hollywood's 'liberal propaganda'

"This is Kiddie Karl Marx"

A growing number of conservative commentators are speaking out against a perceived left-wing bias in the movie industry. Especially in kids films.

The Hollywood Reporter rounds up a number of sources criticising a variety of family films for their eco-friendly, collectivist messages of tolerance.

Top of the list is 'Happy Feet 2', which has been described by Kyle Smith of the NY Post as follows:

"Not only are penguins feminists... but who can forget the way the stars of ‘March of the Penguins’ (and the original ‘Happy Feet’) survived by communitarianism?

"Moreover, penguins are seen being victimized by pollution and other environmental degradations associated with the industrial age. Well played, lefties: This is Kiddie Karl Marx."

On hearing John Lasseter announce that the villain of 'Cars 2' would be an oil industry head, one commentator over at LonelyConservative.com wrote:

“We conservatives and believers in free markets are accused of being paranoid when we say the Hollywood industry is trying to indoctrinate our children with left-wing propaganda. But now movie directors and producers are coming out and admitting what they’re doing."

It's not all one way traffic though. Before they feel too hard done by, John Pitney of Claremont McKenna College says there are examples of conservative morality. He sites 'Mulan' as “a conservative parable about terrorism. After all, Mulan doesn’t reason with the Huns – she kills them.”
