Detective John McClane (Bruce Willis) certainly had a busy time of it fighting terrorists back in the late '80s/early '90s.
If he wasn't struggling to survive in an LA skyscraper or battling errant mercenaries at a Washington DC airport he was trying to stop psychos from blowing Manhattan off the map. No wonder it's been years since we last saw McClane in his tatty vest - the poor guy must be shattered.
With Die Hard, back in 1988, director John McTiernan more or less reinvented the action thriller - witness copycat films Speed, Under Siege and co - but none have matched up to the Die Hard series.
Willis is excellent as the wise-crackin' New York cop who always seems to find himself in the most unlikely of situations and the Die Hard trilogy is packed with star names (baddies include Alan Rickman and Jeremy Irons while Samuel L. Jackson turns up in film three).
Each film comes with some extras including featurettes and biographies while the final flick boasts an audio commentary.
