Not since James Stewart spent much of the 1950 flick Harvey talking to the invisible bunny of the same name has a six-foot rabbit had such a profound effect on a movie.

Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a high school senior who isn't exactly the same as his teenage classmates. For a start, Donnie's test scores are off the chart plus a fluffy-tailed, yet rather demonic, rabbit has recently saved his life by making him leave his house in the middle of the night. Seconds later, the jet engine of a 747 fell through the roof and landed on Donnie's bed. What's even weirder is that no-one has reported a jet engine as missing. As time progresses, things start to get even more disturbing for Donnie. Especially when the rabbit informs him that the end of the world is nigh.

Darko is a hard movie to genrify, it combines elements of drama, fantasy, sci-fi and comedy (the list goes on). Although it's attraction is obvious, especially when one considers that Hollywood stars like Drew Barrymore and Patrick Swayze were keen to get in on the action - it's involving, challenging and, most importantly of all, it'll make you think, something too few films do these days.

This double-disc director's cut also features an extra 20 minutes of footage as well as a brand new audio commentary to compliment all the featurettes, documentaries and galleries.

'Darko is a hard movie to genrify, it combines elements of drama, fantasy, sci-fi and comedy (the list goes on). Although it's attraction is obvious, especially when one considers that Hollywood stars like Drew Barrymore (her production company backed it) and Patrick Swayze were keen to get in on the action. It's involving, challenging and, most importantly of all, it'll make you think, something too few films do these days. Please don't expect an easy pay-off though. Donnie Darko will have you scratching your head for a while to come.

In addition to the director's cut of the film, you also get a feature-length, all-new director's commentary from Richard Kelly and Kevin Smith.
