DVD Review

This video game-inspired movie from 2005 is probably what you'd expect from such a project, namely much action, basic plot and dialogue.

Ideal really for its star, former wrestler The Rock.

A group of hardcore marines head off to Mars to discover what has been causing so many problems to a number of scientists based on the planet. Led by the toughest of the bunch, Sarge (The Rock), the team go in search of what they think has been at the root of all the strange goings on. Could it be aliens (the most likely explanation considering the film is set on an alien planet) or mutants, created by some dodgy mixing of test tubes.

Soon the team of cliched marines - there's the psycho, the tortured soul, the scaredy cat and obligatory lady warrior (former Bond gal Rosamund Pike) -begin to lose their bearings, not to mention their heads. One by one they are picked off and killed by whatever is up there and audiences will no doubt find notable similarities with Alien. The Rock's presence is typically formidable as the gun-toting Sarge.

Contains several featurettes and bonus footage.
