Fish-out-of-water comedies have been a cinema staple since moving pictures were invented, but the storyline never seems to fail audiences and this latest take on the genre pushes all the right buttons.

Drumline takes a clever twist, pitching a sensational street drummer into a marching band at a smart Atlanta university. Nick Cannon plays Devon, a man taken (in a drumbeat!) from the streets of Harlem to the cosy middle class world of academia after the university bandmaster spots his talents.

Pitched into an unfamiliar world, Devon plays it cocky and streetsmart, extending his solos and totally lacking the team discipline necessary for a group of musicians. With the BET Big Southern Classic looming (a marching band competition) can Devon get his act together and grow up? ...and maybe, just maybe, help his band to a glorious victory.

Comedy, drama and romance from a film where half time is game time.
