Depp and Streep to sing for Disney?

Both Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp are in talks to join the cast of a forthcoming adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's musical  'In The Woods.'

Produced by Disney, the film is being directed by Rob Marshall, who directed the last 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movie which, of course, starred Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Additional names already lined up include James Lapine who wrote the screenplay, based on his book for the musical. David Krane, a frequent Marshall collaborator, is working on the music for the film while John DeLuca is producing.

The musical involves a store of a baker who, with his wife, goes on a journey in an attempt to a lift the curse of childlessness from their family. Along the way they encounter a group of fairy-tale characters including an evil witch, Rapunzel, Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood.

Streep looks likely to play the witch according to early reports, although Depp's role is yet unconfirmed.

This is the first singing role that Depp has accepted since Tim Burton's own adaptation of Sondheim's work: 'Sweeney Todd', and also seems to imply that Rob Marshall won't be directing 'Pirates of the Caribbean 5', which has a July 10, 2015 release date already in place.

Depp is currently shooting Wally Pfister’s sci fi directorial debut, 'Transcendence.'
