DVD sales fell dramatically in 2011
Unsurprisingly, British Video Association figures show sales dropped significantly in 2011
With digital downloads and online streaming taking off, the British Video Association (BVA) have announced the unsurprising news that physical sales of DVDs dropped dramatically last year.
2011 saw a drop off in sales of 7.2%, with the final two parts of the 'Harry Potter' saga topping the charts. Next up were box-office smash 'The Inbetweeners' followed by the Oscar-laden 'The King's Speech'.

December proved to be a good month however, with 23% of all physical sales coming in the run up to Christmas. £473m being was spent on DVDs and Blu-rays in December.
The encouraging news for the British film industry is that seven of the top ten titles were home-grown products.
Legal downloads and digital rental transactions were up 12% throughout the year, and with new services being announced recently this trend looks set to continue.
