DVD Review

Failure To Launch is a rom-com which stars Matthew McConaughey (Tripp) as a 35-year-old yacht salesman, reluctant to abandon his family bedroom at home with parents Kathy Bates and Terry Bradshaw. In walks Sarah Jessica-Parker as Paula, a woman who has made it her business (literally) to seduce men into abandoning their parents by imbuing them with the confidence to go it alone.

When she's employed by Bates and Bradshaw, though, to encourage their son to stand up on his own, Paula's mask of professionalism slips and she falls hopelessly in love with the adultlescent. Quite why is hard to understand, not least because, for reasons that even Tripp is pushed to fathom, he is prone to being bitten by small animals. Needless to say, he is more baffled still to learn that Paula has been hired by his parents and is, to all intents and purposes, a kind of prostitute.

This being a rom-com, though, the duo work it out, largely thanks to Parker's likeable persona. And while it's as predictable as all films of this ilk, its appearance will no doubt please Sex And The City fans who may have been fearing for its star in the wake of the show's demise.

Bonus features are: Making Of featurette, interview with Matthew McConaughey and Terry Bradshaw, Failure To Launch contest and featurettes.
