Any self-respecting comic fan will be aware of Marvel's excellent superhero quartet known as the Fantastic Four. They were well overdue a movie and director Tim Story has finally obliged.

Four astronauts find their bodies dramatically changed when an experimental space mission goes drastically wrong. Group leader Reed Richards (Ioan Grufford) becomes elastic limbed Mr Fantastic, Sue Storm (Jessica Alba) the Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm (Chris Evans, not the ginger one) turns into the Human Torch while poor Ben Grimm (The Shield's Michael Chiklis) sees his skin turn to brick as The Thing. The odd personal issue aside, together they use their powers to save the world from disaster and in this case super baddie Dr Doom (Julian McMahon from Nip/Tuck).

Tim Story previously helmed Barbershop and Taxi so this is something of a departure for him and it is no X-Men. Nip / Tuck's Julian McMahaon could have drawn on his Buffy experience but he seems a bit hammy here, Alba is okay as is remainder of the cast and the effects.

It's one strictly for comic book film fans who'll no doubt be pleased that the 2 disc set comes with a heck of a lot of extras including a feature length making of! Additionally it contains: commentary by cast members Ioan Grufford, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis and Julian McMahon; unique insight into the worldwide launch of a blockbuster movie; the movie's producer takes you around the art deco home of The Fantastic Four Team; animation composition; deleted scenes; creating special effects; auditions; music videos and more.
