Cuba Gooding Jr. teams up with 'Bootylicious' Beyoncé for a gospel romcom.
Cuba is Darrin Brown, a failed New York ad exec who's unstable financial position isn't helped by the fact he's just been fired! His Aunt Sally has just died so it's a pretty miserable time for Darrin until he gets to his hometown of Montecarlo, Georgia and finds that his benevolent Aunt has left him $150,000. But only if he can get the local church choir into the annual Gospel Explosion contest. Cue plenty of lessons in the benefits of small-town living, as Darrin reconnects with the people he knew growing up.
Played out like a cross between Doc Hollywood and Sister Act, this feel good outing may be dripping with more cheese than a Philly Steak sandwich, but it's actually quite fun.
Beyoncé is genuinely good as the single mum Cuba's character fancied as a child and her vocal talents lift the rousing soundtrack out of the ordinary and into the excellent. You'll tap your feet and there can be no denying that the real star of The Fighting Temptations is the music.
