It's a very strange state of affairs to find a comic book villain turn into a fan favourite. But over the last few years we've seen Tom Hiddleston's Loki become exactly that. And after an impressive appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con, it looks as though the fans are eager to see more of the villainous Loki… to the extent that they've started a new petition to request a spin-off movie for the treacherous Marvel villain.
The Free Loki campaign has already gathered over 11,000 signatures… and I think it's safe to say that it shows exactly how popular the character is with marvel fans.
"The character Loki," the petition explains, "has become one of the most recognizable and cherished film characters in recent years. Hence, we respectfully yet strongly request Marvel put into action a full-length feature film production based on the Marvel character."
But they don't stop there.
"We feel Loki (as portrayed by Tom Hiddleston) more than warrants further exploration of his story… To explore this darker side of the Thor storyline would be to give credit to a compelling individual, his remarkable portrayer and an appreciative audience that feels a fierce loyalty to both in an unprecedented way."
"Simply put: He has an army."
Terrifying stuff. Let's just hope Marvel give them what they want.
On a more serious note, it's not exactly normal for a super villain to be given his own movie… but I think Marvel would be mad not to give in. I mean, let's face it - Thor has always had a rather complicated relationship with his brother. And after seeking his aid in 'Thor 2' it could open the door for a fully-fledged Loki sequel.
Over the past couple of years, Tom Hiddleston's Loki has become more and more popular, and after the fans reactions to his appearance at Comic-Con, it could be an excellent addition to the Marvel cinematic universe. But will the studio go for it?
It'll take another 9000 signatures to find out…
Do you think Loki deserves his own movie? Should Marvel consider the petition? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
