Fifth American Pie film 'likely'

Director Paul Weitz says that a new film in the series is on the cards

A fifth film in the 'American Pie' series is likely, says the film's original director.

Paul Weitz, who directed the first film and was producer of 'American Pie 2' and last year's 'American Reunion', has said that he would always be up for more films being made in the series.

When asked by the Hollywood Reporter whether there were plans to do another film, he said: “I’m happy that keeps on going. I imagine [there will be]. I think this one kind of benefited from it being seven years since the last one, so there’s a curiosity factor.”

Asked what the next film might involve, he joked: “I don’t know. Maybe they’re in a retirement home.”

The director added that he is always willing to look over new ideas for the franchise, including the last instalment.

“It kind of happens where [the studio] tell me about it, and I go 'Neat'. And if they want my two cents, I give it.

“I read the ['American Reunion'] script and I told those guys, who I thought did a good job, I gave them some ideas. Most of them weren't used, a couple were useful.”

Both Mena Suvari and Jason Biggs have expressed an interest in working on a fifth film.
