First pics of Matt Damon and Michael Douglas in Liberace biopic

Douglas plays the showman and Damon his lover Scott Thorson in the Soderbergh film

The first pictures have emerged of Michael Douglas and Matt Damon on the set of Steven Soderbergh's forthcoming biopic of Liberace, 'Behind The Candelabra'.

In a remarkable transformation, Douglas is playing the flamboyant pianist and showman, while Damon is playing his young lover Scott Thorson.

The pair are currently filming the biopic in Los Angeles, based on Thorson's own memoir 'Behind The Candelabra: My Life with Liberace'.

Also among the cast is Dan Aykroyd, who plays Liberace's manager Seymour Heller, who disapproved of his client's relationship with Thorson.

Meanwhile, Rob Lowe plays the plastic surgeon who worked on Thorson's face to make it look more like Liberace's, and Debbie Reynolds stars as the singer's mother Frances.

The set being used is reportedly the mansion belonging to Zsa Zsa Gabor in Bel Air, which is currently being threatened with foreclosure.

The pair's relationship ended thanks to a combination of the Liberace's promiscuity and Thorson's drug addiction, which resulted in him contracting Hepatitis C.

Their split came in 1982, with a famous palimony settlement which saw Thorson receive two cars, two dogs and $95,000 (£60,500).
