Both Dane Cook and Jessica Alba try in vain to enhance their cinema reputation in Good Luck Chuck.
Cook is trying to make himself a name outside America (where the stand-up comedian/actor is fairly famous), while Alba tries to convince people there is more to her than a sexy figure with a blank face when she has to react to things other than a mirror.
Unfortunately, both fail here in this abysmal comedy about a dentist (Cook) who has the 'ability' to make any woman find the man of her dreams as soon as they sleep with him. Unfortunately, though, he can never be the man they fall in love with, so ultimately he is cursed to live a lonely life. (Apart from all the sex with people like Jessica Alba, though.)
The premise itself is hardly a brilliant one but a sexual comedy should deliver more than the limp and flaccid jokes on offer here. Note to screenwriters: when you're resorting to your main character simulating sex with a stuffed penguin to get laughs it's best to ditch the script and start again.
