Gandalf’s Sword Spotted In Game Of Thrones’ Iron Throne

'Game of Thrones' fans have made a startling discovery about the show’s iconic Iron Throne prop.

Reddit user NoMoreHodoring (props for the username) has pointed out what appears to be Glamdring, Gandalf’s famous sword that he wields in ‘Lord of the Rings’, hidden amongst the hundreds of blades that make up the throne.

In ‘Game of Thrones’ lore, the Iron Throne is the royal seat of Seven Kingdoms, forged by the first king of Westeros Aegon Targaryen from the thousand swords of his defeated enemies.

It is said to have been heated by the flamey breath of feared dragon Balerion the Black Dread and it is notoriously uncomfortable to sit on. Yay for subtle allegories!

It's not an exact match upon closer inspection, but it's close enough for us.

Of course, ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’ both exist in entirely separate universes, so it can’t be the real Glamdring, it’s more likely a nod to Tolkien snuck in by the prop designers.

This isn't the first time the 'Game of Thrones' prop department has caused a stir on the internet though.

It was revealed that a severed head on a spike, spotted in the first series, was actually a George W Bush mould that had been reused from another production.

The show’s producers apologised and it was digitally removed for the DVD release.
