Joseph Gordon-Levitt has joined the cast of Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, it has been announced.
The Looper star is set to play Johnny, a "cocky gambler who disguises a darker mission to destroy his most foul enemy at his best game" in the highly anticipated sequel, reported Collider.
"I love how the first movie uses VFX, not to make fake things look real, but to create a heightened world unburdened by the look and feel of reality. Plus, nobody makes a bada** like Mr Rodriguez," he said in a statement.
Directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller added: "Johnny is a new character in the Sin City world and we are excited for what Joseph will bring to the role."
Joseph, whose part was previously offered to Johnny Depp, will star alongside returning cast members Jessica Alba, Mickey Rourke, Jamie King, Rosario Dawson and newcomers Jamie Chung and Dennis Haysbert.
Production is already underway at Robert's Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas for a 2013 release.
Joseph, previously seen in The Dark Knight Rises and Looper, has reportedly passed on a role in Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy and the upcoming Godzilla reboot.
He is set to premiere his directorial debut Don Jon's Addiction at the Sundance Film Festival. The film, which he wrote, directed and stars in, also stars Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore.
