Julianne Hough has revealed her latest film character is "a lot closer to home" than people might think.
The Footloose star - who found fame on US TV show Dancing With The Stars - plays a woman with a dark, mysterious past in Safe Haven, who arrives in a small North Carolina town and begins to learn to trust again as she falls for a new man.
Julianne told The Hollywood Reporter: "She's a lot closer to home than a lot of people realise because of certain things in my past I don't really talk about but I can relate to."
The actress, who is dating American Idol host Ryan Seacrest, also revealed she is a big fan of author Nicholas Sparks, who penned the book that the movie is adapted from.
She said: "Women can feel sentimental and in love, when all their fantasies come true. We're women, we like fantasy and heightened romance. You feel something. You cry. You get turned on even. As women we love that."
Josh Duhamel stars opposite Julianne in the romantic drama and Canadian actress Cobie Smulders has been cast as a neighbour.
