With the plans for a sequel to 'Independence Day' now moving ahead, director Roland Emmerich has revealed that he already has two scripts.

Seems a bit greedy, not to mention a bit on the busy side dialogue-wise, you might be thinking – but it transpires that one version features Will Smith, who is not yet signed up, and the other does not.

Speaking to The Playlist, Emmerich said that the development of the movie so far is 'a daily battle... the budget, the schedules, the actors… [but] it's looking good'.

Though he refused to answer whether Smith was involved in the movie yet, he did say that he had 'two versions' of the script.

When asked if that meant one had Smith in it and the other didn't, he said 'Yes', but added that the version with Smith in is 'looking good'.

Jamie Vanderbilt, the writer behind his last movie 'White House Down', is behind both versions of the film.

It's thought that the son Smith had in the first movie will be key to sequel, and there's even rumours that Michael B. Jordan, of 'The Wire' and 'Fruitvale Station' fame, may be in line for the role.

It's also thought that both Bill Pullman, who played the fighter plane-flying president in the first movie, and government poindexter turned alien-destroying action hero Jeff Goldblum are both to return.

It was previous floated that there may be two sequels in the pipeline, but Emmerich added that there is likely to be just one for now.

“I thought about spending four years of my life on one movie and I didn't want to turn into something from the movie. It's a movie about aliens, I don't want to turn into an alien,” he said.

'Independence Day 2' has a slated release date of July 3, 2015.
