This Spielberg classic was the first, and clearly the best, in the series that spawned widespread big-fish-fanaticism. Starring Roy Schneider, Richard Dreyfuss, Robert Shaw and Lorraine Gary, the movie told the simple tale of a sleepy US seaside town, named Amity, which is terrorised when a rogue great white shark starts eating the visiting tourists.
The police call in a shark specialist (Dreyfuss), who teams up with an old sea-dog (Shaw), to defeat the vicious great white. Many critics have since argued that Jaws ushered in the era of high concept movies, where Hollywood backed away from more demanding stories in favour of simple shockers and all-out action pics. Although there is some truth in this simplistic assessment, Jaws undeniably has three fascinating characters in the male leads and, anyway, can hardly be blamed for what came afterwards.
With special effects that thrilled viewers back in 1975 and remain impressive now, plus a timeless story line, Steven Spielberg's Jaws is arguably still one of the best horror films ever made and is no less captivating thirty years after its initial release.
This 30th anniversary 2-disc edition comes with several special features including; A Look Inside Jaws - 2 Hours Behind The Scenes Documentary, From The Set - 1974 Steven Spielberg Interview, deleted scenes, outtakes, stills gallery, storyboards and Shark Facts - Interactive.
