While to many Mars remains an enigmatic red ball drifting timelessly in space; to filmmakers it's an evil, deadly place that will suck the life out of movie projects. The number of good films to successfully make it off the planet's surface are few, as Red Planet and Mission To Mars pay ample testament. Could Ghosts Of Mars fair any better or does Halloween director John Carpenter's film burn-up on re-entry?
It's 2176 and a group of hardened space cops have been sent to a remote mining outpost on the planet in order to bring back a dangerous and wanted man, played by rapper-turned-actor Ice Cube. However, when they get there the crew find that the place has been taken over by the spirits of long-dead Martians, who have possessed the colonists and turned the place into a living hell. Can the group escape with their lives or are they destined to end their days as alien food?
Plenty of explosions, grisly ends and red dust mean that Red Planet might not be to everyone's taste. A decent cast, including Natasha Henstridge, Jason Statham and the 'Cube mean that sci-fi fans should lap it up.
