Ryan Reynolds and Anna Faris star in a film that's almost as likeable as it is forgettable. Reynolds is Chris, a hotshot record producer rejected in his chubby youth by Jamie (Amy Smart) and still recovering from the trauma.
Faris plays Samantha, his latest charge (a hybrid of every talent-vortex American pop queen) nursing a desperate crush on her mentor with whom she once slept (he regrets it, she wants a repeat).
Faris and Reynolds spark off each other brilliantly, but Just Friends makes the crucial error of dispensing with her services halfway through to focus on the rekindled relationship between Chris and the girl (now woman) who uttered the title's soul-crushing words to him all those years ago. With Chris now thin and handsome (though still desperately insecure) things are looking promising until Chris Klein steps in and distracts her attention.
Just Friends is diverting enough, but it squanders its opportunity to be something better by making the latest in a lengthening line of comedies about insecure guys.
Special features are deleted scenes (10 mins), 11 behind the scenes featurettes!, Jamie smiles music video, alternative ending and blooper reel.
