James Cameron hires Terminator TV series writer for Avatar 2

Josh Friedman also worked on Spielberg's War of the Worlds.

James Cameron has hired Josh Friedman, the creator of the TV spin-off 'Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles', to work on the script for 'Avatar 2'.

Cameron has been working on the scripts for his two 'Avatar' sequels for the past four years, and is now thought to be seeking fresh eyes for the projects.

Friedman's past form also includes writing the noir thriller 'Black Dahlia' for Brian De Palma, and work on Steven Spielberg's 'War of the Worlds', though 'The Sarah Chronicles' was eventually cancelled by Fox in 2009 after two seasons.

It's not known whether Friedman will be working on the script for 'Avatar 3' too, though Cameron is making both movies back-to-back.

Star Zoe Saldana, who played Neytiri in the first film, has said that she believes the filming for the first sequel will begin in early 2014.

Other than that, there's not yet much to go on in terms of news on the production.

Producer Jon Landau has revealed that they will be using pioneering underwater motion capture techniques on the film, and doubtless Cameron will be attempting to push the boundaries of what is technologically possible in his sequels.

But whether we shall see the next film by 2015, as has been mooted, is looking less likely.
