A few years ago Lara Croft burst onto our screens in a bout of physically-enhanced glory but, unfortunately, the movie itself was a bit of a turkey. Can this sequel breathe some life back onto the flagging franchise?
Greece the birthplace of civilisation and democracy and, quite naturally, a country so steeped in history it would attract an archaeologist of Lara Croft's (Angelina Jolie) standing. Especially when an earthquake uncovers what our heroine believes to be a mystical venue called the Lunar Temple. Stored within is an artifact of such power and importance that it's not only Lara that's after it. So, one lucky escape later, and she's off in pursuit of baddie, the Nobel Prize winning Dr. Jonathan Reiss (Ciaran Hinds), before he can use it's power for his own evil means. But even Lara can't tackle this madman alone so she recruits former squeeze Terry Sheridan (Gerard Butler) to assist.
The film's big selling point, the action, delivers everything you'd expect from all-action girl Lara. Unfortunately, just like it's predecessor, the movie's plot isn't exactly challenging - but The Cradle Of Life is still better than the original and maybe that should be compliment enough.
