Sofia Coppola has moviemaking flowing through her bones. Daughter of Oscar-winner Francis Ford Coppola, cousin to Nicolas Cage. So no stranger to Academy Award glory! She deservedly added another gold statue to the family collection with this stunning little movie.

Bill Murray is Bob Harris, a Hollywood actor in Tokyo to film a whiskey commercial. Bob knows his star is fading and hates the fact that he's prostituting himself but, money is money. Scarlett Johansson plays Charlotte, the wife of a young photographer also in the city for work. In each other they find solace from the foreign world around them.

Coppola gently coaxes the characters into the type of platonic friendship only two strangers can enjoy. Murray is simply awesome. Never breaking character by giving into the urge to mug for the camera or lark about - possibly his finest hour. Johansson picked up plaudits for her performance too, but the real star of this movie is Tokyo itself. Captured largely at night, resplendent in it's neon garishness. The eastern capital is as much of a character as any of the actors. Not to be missed.

DVD extras here include deleted scenes, a 'Lost On Location' featurette, a Kevin Shields (formerly of My Bloody Valentine) music video, a conversation with the writer / director, Sofia Coppola and actor Bill Murray as well as the theatrical original trailer.
