Richard Curtis, the man behind the international hits Four Weddings And A Funeral, Notting Hill and Bridget Jones's Diary makes his directorial debut with a heartwarming outing.
As you'd expect, this is classic rom-com all the way. Set in London during the build-up to Christmas the film follows the love lives of various individuals including a heartbroken author (Colin Firth), a widowed stepfather (Liam Neeson), an aging rock star (Bill Nighy) and the Prime Minister himself (Hugh Grant) before all their paths cross on a romantic Christmas Eve.
As a director Curtis has coaxed some great performances from the cast, especially Nighy who steals the show, and effortlessly makes London the focal point of his film. we see the streets and locations in all their snow-covered glory
There's also a plethora of guest appearances to adding a Richard Curtis film to their CVs. There has to be a special mention for Ant & Dec for being able to keep a straight face while Nighy camps it up on their TV show although the sight of Grant 'dancing' his way round No. 10 may be too much for some.
