This belated sequel to The Mask Of Zorro finds Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones both showing a little extra padding, while their marriage is also looking worse for wear.
The swashbuckling couple have a ten year old son Joaquin (Adrian Alonso) now, but like so many relationships the man of the house is unable settle down and commit to his family, so they separate.
The Legend Of Zorro takes place in the run up to the American Civil War, the somewhat overextended plot involving the entry of California, now free from Mexican rule, on the verge of entering into the US, thus pushing the southern states into secession. Worse still, there's a dastardly Frenchman (Rufus Sewell) in the thick of things, and Mr and Mrs Zorro (reunited for the good of the nation) are soon on his trail.
There's little we haven't seen before from a Zorro movie here. The usual galloping horse chases and cloth-slashing hi-jinks a all present and correct, although director Martin Campbell injects a little more of the old skool comic-book humour fans of the genre will certainly appreciate. A worthy enough sequel to one of the more enjoyable action flick adaptations of recent years.
DVD bonus features include director commentary, deleted scenes, a Behind-The-Scenes featurette along with Multi-angle scene deconstructions.
