Synopsis

When Andrew, a New York City filmmaker, sets out on a search to find the perfect subject for his documentary on the mail order bride industry, he finds what appears to be the ideal candidate. Adrian Martin is an overweight doorman from Queens who has given up on dating and seems optimistic about choosing a wife from overseas. After corresponding with Burmese women from a catalogue, Adrian selects Lichi, a beautiful woman in her twenties whose creative ad and curious letter both pique his interest. A true documentarian, Andrew funds Adrian's mail-order bride in exchange for the right to film the experience. However, when Lichi arrives in America, she finds herself married to a hermit with a penchant for sadistic sexual role-playing. When Andrew becomes increasingly emotionally intertwined in his subjects' lives and their disastrous marriage, he finds himself involved in a series of unpredictable events. Objectivity finally flies out the window when Lichi and Andrew become involved.
