Tommy Lee Jones stars in this film which begins as a thriller - five cheerleaders witness a murder, necessitating a full-time guard (Jones) on the house to keep them safe - then drifts off into a souffle-light culture clash, generation gap almost-comedy, as Jones and the girls fail to come to terms with each other's worlds.
In a diversion that smacks of demographic box-ticking, we're then introduced to a black church ministered by Cedric The Entertainer. By coincidence, and in apparent contravention of cheerleading lore, he used to be one too. Cue the obligatory scene where the old codger competes against young pretenders to show off the best moves.
Then, just in case it was settling down, along comes Jones' love interest Anne Archer and we're into On Golden Pond for the late middle-aged. Suddenly Man Of The House remembers it was once a thriller and takes an audience whose heads by now have spun so violently they no longer know which way they're facing to its inevitable conclusion.
A Cheer Camp Featurette and the Making-Of Man Of The House are among the special features.
