Based on William Joyce's book A Day With Wilbur Robinson, Meet The Robinsons is CGI animated sci-fi from Disney and thankfully devoid of hyper squirrels and other modern animated movie cliches.
Instead it focuses on Lewis, an exceptional 12-year-old who has a knack for clever inventions. He is embarking on his most ambitious project to date - the Memory Scanner! He hopes the new creation will revive early memories of his mother who put him up for adoption and perhaps he can find out why.
The plan goes awry when the villainous Bowler Hat Guy steals the invention.
All hope seems lost until Lewis encounters the enigmatic Wilbur Robinson who takes Lewis with him in a time machine to the future where he meets the titular family. The common picture of the future - cars flying, cities floating etc. - is amplified here as they go in search of Bowler Hat Guy and attempt to save the future while trying to complete Lewis's original mission.
Many animated films employ big name voice talent, often to make up for thin plot, this movie features mainly unknown actors, although Angela Bassett, Tom Selleck and Laurie Metcalf do good turns, it relies upon its refreshingly quirky story.
Loud and visually stimulating, Meet The Robinson's is a family film that you won't need a Memory Scanner to remember.
