SPECIAL EDITION BOX
The DVD format could have been invented for Christopher Nolan's modern classic, Memento. Three discs might have been pushing even this fine thriller a little too far, but the wealth of extras makes this compulsory viewing all over again.
The story was originally told backwards: Guy Pearce's amnesiac hero starts by shooting someone and gradually the audience is let in on events leading up to the murder. Pearce is hypnotising as the permanently baffled widower investigating his wife's death.
Previous DVDs of Memento have reconstructed the tale in chronological order, offering a fascinating fresh insight into the tricksy tale. Now, with three DVDs at their disposal, the producers have unveiled documentary footage, a stack of movie posters, stills and sketches and a commentary from the enigmatic Nolan.
This is a brilliant box-set from a deserved cult success. With Memento, a mere souvenir just isn't enough.
