Tom Cruise stars as superspy Ethan Hunt, first with a close-cropped barnet, then with droopy locks, in these two action flicks.

In the first movie, Special Agent Ethan Hunt's on a mission to discover the identity of a mole who betrayed him and his team. Cruise is supported by a strong cast - including Ving Rhames, Jon Voight, Kristin Scott Thomas, Vanessa Redgrave and Emilio Estevez - and director Brian DePalma (Scarface) manages to skillfully create tense scenarios.

The second installment sees Hong Kong-based action director John Woo taking the helm, blending his trademark cinematic gunplay (two shooters and a pair of shades!) with a plot involving the theft of a deadly virus known as Chimera. Hunt must recover the virus and destroy it before the villainous Sean Ambrose (Dougray Scott) can have his wicked way. The basic character mechanism, which was borrowed from Alfred Hitchcock's Notorious, involves a love interest which binds the adversaries together and leaves the audience unsure as to who's being played for a fool.

This Collector's DVD set includes interviews with Cruise and Woo plus a stunt featurette which explains 11 elaborate set pieces. There's also commentary from Woo, alternate title sequences, a Metallica music video and a parody of the films, entitled Mission: Improbable.
