Who could ever have predicted that in these times of highly-publicised celebrity break-ups there would be a spate of films based on marriage and the age old problems with in-laws.
Meet the Parents/Fockers, My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Guess Who are all examples of recent films that deal with the subject in a comical manner. All the signs would suggest that the latest variation on the theme would not match up to those movies (although Guess Who shouldn't be too difficult to emulate). Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda, returning to movies after a break of 15 years, are the stars.
The Latino star plays a working class woman called Charlie, on the verge of marrying a doctor (Michael Vartan) much to the chagrin of his mother played by Fonda. All comic possibilities stem from the Monster-In-Law desperately trying to get her son to come to his senses and break it off before the wedding. This 'joke' is stretched to snapping point as Fonda's plans get increasingly OTT.
There are some good visual gags, particularly when you get a glimpse of what's going on in the mother-in-law's head as she shoves her would-be daughter-in-law's head into a cake, but you'd have to really be a fan of such slapstick to get enjoyment from the entire movie.
You can imagine, then, what the gag reel is like which is also included here along with feature length commentary, deleted scenes, Ruby's Make-up Bag and other featurettes.
