Could this be the greatest ever big screen version of Charles Dickens' classic tale? That might be pushing it a bit but this is arguably the best of The Muppets' movies and it features a host of songs which really capture the festive atmosphere and mood.
Michael Caine is excellent as Scrooge and manages to play the part with a stony-faced authenticity. The scenery is delightful, particularly the opening shot, which glides along the snow-caked London rooftops before disappearing into the streets, heralding the tale's commencement. Most importantly though, there are some great jokes in the film. Not least when Scrooge's employees politely complain about being cold then, when they see him begin to boil with anger, appear in grass skirts singing Island In The Sun calypso style.
The humans and Muppets interaction is typically good, making this one of the funniest updates of the festive favourite.
