Martin Scorsese heckled at Academy screening of Wolf of Wall Street

Director Martin Scorsese was publicly heckled at a screening of his latest film 'The Wolf of Wall Street' for AMPAS (Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences) members on Saturday it has been revealed.

Veteran actresss Hope Holiday, who appeared in Billy Wilder's 'The Apartment' in 1965, posted a message on her Facebook wall calling the film "three hours of torture".

The post goes on to reveal that Martin Scorsese and star Leonardo DiCaprio were lambasted by an unnamed 'screenwriter' who ran over to the pair who had arrived for a Q&A screaming "shame on you" and "disgusting."

She added in the comments below the post "Talented men putting such junk on the screen and thinking it was funny--a fight almost ensued --I ran down the stairs".

The film, which clocks in at 3 hours, tells the decadent tale of Jordan Belfort, a stock trader who works hard and plays even harder.

Leonardo DiCaprio, who plays Belfort, called the film "a modern-day Caligula" thanks to the liberal abuse of language, nudity, and drugs, so it's no suprise that the 75-year-old actress found the film "torture".

Scorsese told The Wrap that even he found some of the film's scenes uncomfortable to watch, "It's brutal. I've seen it with audiences, and I think it plays. I don't know if it will be to everyone's taste - I don't think it will. It's not made for 14 year olds."

You can find out what all the fuss is about when 'The Wolf of Wall Street' opens in UK cinemas on January 17, 2014.
