Following the superbly disastrous European Vacation, could anything else go wrong for the hapless Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase)? Of course it can, and the series of misfortunes provides more laughs in this, the third in the Griswold family saga.
Subtlety is shown the door once more as the in-your-face gags come thick and fast with writer John Hughes nodding irreverently to movies of Christmas past. While Chase is perfectly cast, it's Randy Quaid's performance as Clark's somewhat unhinged cousin Eddie that's most memorable and hilarious as he and his family turn up uninvited in their mobile home, while a young Juliette Lewis plays Clark's teenage daughter.
Think whatever could possibly go wrong with elaborate Christmas lighting, swimming pool installation and everything depending on a bonus cheque from Clark's job and you only come slightly close to the ensuing seasonal hilarity here.
