This outstanding knock about comedy set in New York's American Museum Of Natural History comes as a two-disc special edition release with many additional features.
In it Larry Daley's (Ben Stiller) job is to patrol New York's Museum Of Natural History. It seems like a straightforward security job if it wasn't for a dormant curse that could bring all the exhibits to life.
Ancient Romans and Attila The Hun are awoken, plus a glut of whales, lions, and insects as Larry attempts to reverse the curse with help from the museum's co-founder Roosevelt (Robin Williams).
If it's slightly reminiscent of the phantom boardgame capers of Jumanji, then the presence of a suitably OTT Robin Williams certainly brings that favourite back to mind. However, this film is unique because of its humour which sees Stiller having a slapping match with a monkey and a dinosaur skeleton on the prowl.
With great special effects and a cast that also includes Ricky Gervais, Steve Coogan, Owen Wilson, Mickey Rooney and Dick Van Dyke, Night At The Museum is a comedic triumph and a family film that works on more than one level.
The special features include a walk through the museum from the special effects point of view; how the museum was brought to life from storyboards and green screens through to the computer animation process; meet the monkey who plays Dexter; a blooper reel; deleted and extended scenes with optional commentary by director Shawn Levy; director and writer's commentary, McFly music video; making-of featurette and Rexy's Bone Jumble (set-top game).
