Nicolas Cage turned down Dumb & Dumber
Actor refused Jim Carrey's offer for a role in the comedy
He might be making a fool of himself in the horrendous 'Ghost Rider' sequel, but that's nothing compared to how Nic Cage might have been viewed if he'd accepted an offer from Jim Carrey many years ago...
The Hollywood Reporter were speaking with Cage at a press event for his new release, and the subject of his former friend Jim Carrey (they apparently "fell out of conversation), when Cage revealed:
"Well, we talked at length about trying to do a movie together. In fact, he wanted me to be in Dumb & Dumber with him. And then I wanted to do a much smaller movie instead called Leaving Las Vegas."

So instead of an Oscar, Cage could have had a van shaped like a dog. We're not convinced he made the right decision. In fact, nor is he is his opinion on Oscars is anything to go by:
"I think that if you go about making movies to win Oscars, you're really going about it the wrong way.... Right now, what I'm excited about is trying to create a kind of a cultural understanding through my muse that is part of the zeitgeist that isn't motivated by vanity or magazine covers or awards."
Which apparently means dialling in a performance as an undead stunt man.
