Based on a true story, this drama from director Richard Kwietniowski stars Philip Seymour Hoffman as a Canadian bank exec whose gambling addiction spiraled seriously out of control.

Aged 24, Brian Mahowny was one of the rising stars in banking circles. an assistant manager at a central Toronto branch of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Brian was seen as the consummate professional. A hard worker with a quiet enough home life, big things were expected of him but what his colleagues and his friends didn't know was that Brian had fraudulently pilfered more than $10 million over an 18 month period to feed his gambling addiction.

Also starring John Hurt and Minnie Driver, this engaging movie chronicles the highs and lows of an addictive lifestyle in such a way that you'll certainly not want to get bitten by the bug but Hoffman's superb performance does allow us to feel just a little bit of sympathy for this man who is trying so desperately to swim against the tide.
