Synopsis

Southern Italy, summer 1943. An American fighter plane is shot down and a lone Italian-American soldier parachutes to safety amid the vineyards and olive orchards that dot this sun-drenched landscape. Cared for by a peasant farmer and his daughters, Tony begins to discover his roots in a setting that is as lush and wildly romantic as it is fraught with danger. As he falls in love with one of the darkly beautiful daughters, he learns the pizzica, a traditional dance of courtship. A film filled with the sights, sounds and tastes of a still vibrant peasant culture.
