Pete Doherty's acting debut panned

Rocker Pete Doherty is no stranger to law-breaking, now his film debut is labelled 'criminal' too

Pete Doherty’s film debut hasn’t gone down well at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Libertines and Babyshambles front man stars in 'Confession of a Child of the Century', an adaptation of Alfred de Musset’s 19th autobiographical tome about a drug-addled dandy who falls into depression after learning that his mistress (model Lily Cole) was unfaithful.

It sounds like perfect casting to us, but critics who’ve seen the film beg to differ.

Catherine Shoard of The Guardian rated the film1/5, saying "Pete Doherty's performance as a philosophising dandy is as catastrophic as the rest of this insufferable film".

Over at the Daily Mail, Baz Bamigboye commented: "I'm afraid his performance, or lack thereof, is a crime."

And The Hollywood Reporter laments that Doherty "botches a role he was born to play".

If the film ever finds its ways to cinemas, will you pay to see Doherty play a 19th century version of himself?
