Riddick earns an R-rating for trailer, while Vin Diesel teases fans over Marvel plans

Comic-Con panel discusses the return of the Furyan... in Vin Diesel's kitchen

In Comic-Con's Hall H, David Twohy, Vin Diesel, and Battlestar Galactica’s Katee Sackhoff (who plays mercenary Doll in the film) took the stage to discuss the forthcoming 'Riddick,' movie, and to premiere a new extended red-band trailer for the film.

The trailer showed Riddick temporarily chained up by the mercenaries who have hunted him down just before before xenomorph-type alien creatures attack the tin shack they’re holed up in.

The panel discussed both the film plus the rumours surrounding Diesel's plans with the Marvel studio.

Director Twohy recalled his first brush with the Furyan: “I came to Comic-Con 13 years ago with a little movie call Pitch Black with an actor nobody heard of called Vin Diesel. I’m more excited than you are.”

Twohy explains that the third part of the Riddick tale sees Sackhoff come to realise that although Vin Diesel may be “the most dangerous thing on the planet, [but he’s] not the worst thing on the planet.”

The film is an independent production, released by Universal in the US, and E1 in the UK, which in itself has caused the director some headaches.

“Not having a studio was daunting,” said Twohy. “Creative meetings were in Vin’s kitchen. We knew we didn't have all the money in the world for this one, so we made it a survival story.”

The panel also confirmed that the fill is very much a successor to 'Pitch Black,' while fans could still expect more exploration of the themes raised by 'Chronicles Of Riddick.'

More teasingly during the panel, big Vin was asked about his meeting with the Marvel studio earlier this month.

His response? “There is some very big news coming at the end of this month…” said Diesel, laughing. “Poor Marvel. Poor, poor Marvel.”

And, as if to back up his badass reputation, Vin's response to the fan question: “What is it that drives Riddick?” was merely: “GRRRRR.”

'Riddick' is out on September 4th in the UK.
