Spaced was undoubtedly one of the wittiest and most astute sitcoms of the last few years, and many thought it was just a matter of time before Tim, Daisy and co. graced a film of their own. But, alas, it was not to be. What we have here, though, is the next best thing as many of the cast and crew reunite for a zomromcom - that's a romantic comedy. With zombies.
Simon Pegg stars as Shaun, a 30-something loser who's dumped by his girlfriend (Kate Ashfield), mainly because of his lack of ambition and organisation. Mind you, the constant companionship of his sponging old school friend Ed (Nick Frost) doesn't help matters any. But when the dead start to, rather unexpectedly, walk the earth, Shaun is obliged to take charge and lead a group of survivors on a mission to safety - and the pub.
Horror and romantic comedy aren't two genres you'd immediately lump together, but they blend perfectly here as Shaun tries to win back Liz while battling an army of flesh-hungry ghouls.
Featuring a cast which reads like a who's who of British comedy (Bill Nighy, Dylan Moran, Jessica Stephenson, Lucy Davis etc.), and with much reverential tipping of the hat to classic zombie genre flicks, this is quirky British comedy at its best and is bound to go down a storm with anyone fond of Spaced.
This double-disc set comes jam-packed with extras, including audio commentaries, outtakes, featurettes, interviews and a 2000 AD comic strip.
