The premise of this latest offering from Spike Lee might sound like the plot of a porn movie but, fortunately, there is a lot more to it than that.
The film stars newcomer Anthony Mackie as Jack, an up-and-coming exec at a large pharmaceutical firm. When he stumbles on one of the company's big, bad secrets, he blows the whistle on them, rather than keep quiet as advised. Out of a job and penniless (the company having frozen his bank account), the desperate Jack is pleased to see his ex-fiancée, Fatima (Kerry Washington), reappear in his life. Not least because, having left him for another woman, she wants him to father the baby she and her girlfriend plan to have. Soon their friends are lining up around the block and, at $10,000 a pop, Jack is making some good money.
While it seems like quite a lighthearted movie by Spike's standards, he's clearly making a point and he's typically adventurous and arty at points. Although it doesn't pack the punch of, say, Do The Right Thing or Jungle Fever, fans will still be entertained.
