DVD Review

Ever felt like your life hasn't quite panned out the way you hoped? Well that's exactly how Shirley Bradshaw (Pauline Collins) feels. With her best years behind her (or so she thinks), Shirley is a wife and mother but doesn't really feel like she's lived. All that changes when she heads off on holiday with a friend for a fortnight on the Greek island of Mykonos and meets Costas (Tom Conti)...

A healthy mix of sun-soaked, Mediterranean romance and female empowerment, director Lewis Gilbert's film has long been a housewives favourite and it's not hard to see why. Adapted from Willy Russell's stage play, Shirley Valentine is a film which reminds viewers of the virtues of Ferris Bueller's unfailing maxim: "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."
