Every now and then there's a film which is so bad it defies belief. The sort of movie which leaves your mouth wide open in shock for an hour and a half as you wonder quite why a film company would stump up the millions of dollars required. Welcome, then, to Soul Plane - we doubt you'll enjoy your flight.
At the film's crux lies Nashwan Wade (Kevin Hart), an entrepreneurial young man who, after winning $100 million in a court case, decides to start an airline for the urban traveller. We are therefore 'treated' to NWA's (Nashwan Wade Airlines) maiden flight from LA's new Terminal Malcolm X to New York.
Packed full of toilet humour and ethnic and sexist stereotypes, the passengers aboard this pimped-up plane certainly have a smoother ride than the audience. While the first class customers sip champagne and eat lobster, those in regular class share fried chicken and neck gin and juice. One blind gent supplies the most shocking moment as he caresses a baked potato, a Muslim passenger is nicknamed Osama and guarded throughout the entire flight, and one unlucky man is sexually abused by an over amorous security guard. Oh, and there's an African co-pilot named Gaeman, so the joke is...oh, you can probably work out the rest for yourselves.
Quite frankly, Soul Plane should be grounded immediately. But not before those responsible are made to take a flight of their own - preferably one way.
