In 1991, after nearly 50 years of rule by a brutal Soviet occupation, the small Republic of Estonia, confronted their occupiers by announcing their independence to the world. Their charge heralded the collapse of the Soviet Union and the freedom of now-suddenly-former Soviet republics. And music played a pivotal role in these historical events.
