Saldana: 'Avatar' sequels to be filmed together

Star Trek's Uhura, Zoe Saldana has revealed that the two sequels to James Cameron's record-breaking sci fi fantasy, 'Avatar', may have to be filmed simultaneously.

Speaking on last night's Jonathan Ross Show on ITV, Saldana, who plays Neytiri in the original movie, said that shooting the second and third movies needed to happen "at the same time".

Quizzed on how the sequels were progressing, Zoe said: "I think that they're doing a part two and a part three and they're probably going to shoot it at the same time.

"Because if we just do two and then wait, I'll probably be 45 or 50 by the time we get to part three. It takes a long time, it's a very hard process."

As it stands, the long-awaited first sequel still won't appear until 2015 at the earliest, with Cameron reportedly keen to avoid "Matrix pitfalls" in the sequels.

It's a busy time for Saldana, with her role reprising Lieutenant Uhura in 'Star Trek Into Darkness' released next week, and with shooting about to begin on 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' in which she plays Gamora; a green-skinned, last-of-her-species alien.

'Guardians' is due to be released in August 2014.
