Scotty star James Doohan finally gets beamed up

Star Trek star James Doohan's remains finally shot into space on rocket

James Doohan, best known for playing "Scotty" in the original ‘Star Trek’ TV series and films, has finally been sent into space.

Doohan and 307 other dead space fans had their cremated remains sent into orbit on Tuesday thanks to Space Exploration Technologies' unmanned Falcon 9 rocket, which launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.

This was the second attempt to send Doohan’s remains into space after a failed mission in 2008. He died in 2005.

Doohan wasn't the only celeb who had their ashes shot into the cosmos. Joining him on board was Gordon Cooper, who was one of the famous Mercury seven astronauts (who was played by Dennis Quaid in ‘The Right Stuff’).

The orbital memorial cost $3000 (£1,900) per person.

The rocket also included food and supplies for the six people living on the International Space Station.
