Sequel planned for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Producer reveals that work is already underway

A sequel is being planned to spy thriller 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy'.

The film, based on John Le Carre's 1974 novel and directed by Tomas Alfredson, proved a hit on its release last year, pulling in $80 million (£49 million) on a $20 million (£12 million) budget.

Producer Eric Fellner told Collider: “We are working on another one. (Producer) Tim Bevan is putting it together as we speak with (screenwriter) Peter Straughan and Tomas Alfredson, so yes it’s in development.

“It did unbelievably well and it didn’t cost hardly anything… But things take time. Tim is passionate about making sure we do another one.”

It's thought that the sequel may take on 'Smiley's People' as subject matter, another of Le Carre's novels, in which George Smiley, played by Gary Oldman in 'Tinker Tailor', is called from retirement for a last job.

'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' received rave reviews, and featured an all-star cast alongside Oldman, including Tom Hardy, Mark Strong, Colin Firth, Benedict Cumberbatch, John Hurt and Toby Jones.
