Sin City sequel finally confirmed

A sequel to the 2005 hit 'Sin City' has finally been confirmed with the title Sin City: A Dame to Kill For

Ever since ‘Sin City’ starring Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen and Jessica Alba hit cinemas back in 2005, film fans have been eagerly waiting for a follow up, with speculative release dates set nearly every year.

After almost seven years of anticipation cinemagoers have been rewarded with the news that the 'Sin City' sequel has been confirmed and casting for the movie, titled 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For', begins next week.

Filmmakers Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller are already on board with Miller also penning the screenplay alongside William Monahan.

Speaking about the sequel, director Rodriguez said:

“I have wanted to re-team with Frank Miller and return to the world he created since the day we wrapped the original, but have felt a duty to the fans to wait until we had something truly exceptional that would meet and exceed what have become epic expectations. ‘A Dame To Kill For’ will certainly be worth the wait.”

The director has spent his time since the first film came out making another instalment in the 'Spy Kids' franchise as well as the Mexploitation flick 'Machete'. There are plans to make further adventures of both these franchises as well.

‘Sin City’ creator Frank Miller co-directed the original film, and has continued to find success as a writer. However, his attempts to direct another graphic novel for the big screen resulted in the universally panned 'The Spirit' in 2008.

Miller is keen to return to the source of his biggest success and return to Basin City:

“The first ‘Sin City’ knocked out audiences who had never seen anything like it before. Robert Rodriguez and I are going to shake things up and deliver a ferocious film experience that is going to go even further than the first.”

The film will also continue the fruitful relationship between Rodriguez and The Weinstein Company. Bob Weinstein added:

“Audiences have been clamouring for ‘Sin City 2’ with Robert and Frank for a long time and trust me, it will be worth the wait. This will be my 11th collaboration with Robert in 16 years and he’s become a great friend. I look forward to continuing our long lasting relationship and partnering on more projects in the future.”

Script details remain underwraps, but some of the original cast are expected to return.
